Apple Turns 50: A Walk Through the Exhibition That Celebrates Half a Century of Innovation

When a company says it doesn’t live in the past, and then throws itself a proper birthday party — you know the milestone is real. Apple, which has long prided itself on always looking forward, has quietly done something rather beautiful at Apple Park: it opened an anniversary exhibition that takes you straight back to where it all began.

A Living Museum Right Inside Apple Park

The exhibit, nestled in Section 2 of the main Apple Park building, brings together some of the most iconic products Apple has ever made — displayed alongside stunning photography that captures the human moments behind the machines. And if that isn’t enough, a large screen loops through legendary ads and keynote highlights, including the goosebump-inducing 1984 commercial and the emotional opening of the Steve Jobs Theater.

Thanks to Meriam Al Sultan sharing it on X, those of us who can’t walk the halls of Cupertino can still get a glimpse.

The Products That Changed Everything

This isn’t just a display case — it’s a timeline of cultural shifts.

The exhibition features the original 128k Macintosh, the beloved iMac G3, landmark iPhone models showing just how dramatically screen sizes grew over the years, and an entire iPod case that tells its own complete story. That case alone is worth pausing at: the original iPod, the iPod mini, the nano, the shuffle, and the iPod touch — every one of them a turning point, not just for Apple, but for how the world listens to music.

Apple Watches and iPads round out the collection, making it clear just how many categories this one company has reshaped over five decades.

The Details That Make You Stop and Stare

Look closely at the walls, and the real gems reveal themselves.

There’s the iconic pirate flag. A photograph of the original Macintosh team. Stills from the 1984 ad. Steve Jobs’ timeless “intersection of technology and liberal arts” slide. The silhouette of an iPod with white earbuds — an image that once blanketed cities around the world.

But the most quietly powerful pieces? Prints of students using Apple products. Simple, candid, real. They’re a gentle reminder that underneath all the innovation and the revenue numbers and the product launches, the whole point was always to put something meaningful in someone’s hands.

Spotted in the mix too: a still from Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show performance, and what appears to be a recent awards ceremony — most likely celebrating one of Apple TV+’s wins.

Beyond the Main Exhibition

Apple didn’t stop at one room. Various generations of the iPhone and iMac have been placed throughout the hallways of Apple Park, turning the entire campus into something of a rolling retrospective. Sculptures of the illustrated 50th anniversary logo are dotted around the grounds as well, making the celebration feel like it belongs to the whole place — not just one exhibit hall.

Can You Visit?

The exhibition is not open to the general public — Apple Park remains a working campus. But if you’re an employee or visiting one, this is absolutely worth carving out time for. It’s rare that a company this forward-looking pauses long enough to show you how far it has come.

And honestly? It’s a good reminder for all of us. Fifty years. One company. A whole lot of things that changed the way we live.
