Spotify Now Lets You Turn Off All Videos — Here’s How to Find the Setting

Finally, a way to make Spotify purely about the music again.

If you’ve ever opened Spotify just to listen and found yourself distracted by looping visuals, music videos, or video podcasts playing in the background, you’re not alone. Spotify has clearly heard the feedback — and the fix is now rolling out to everyone.

What’s Actually Changing?

Spotify is introducing a new set of video controls that let you switch off different types of video content directly within the app. This isn’t a podcast-hiding toggle or a content filter — it’s specifically designed to strip away visual distractions and bring the focus back to pure audio.

Interestingly, this feature already existed as a parental control option for younger users on Family Plans. Now Spotify is opening it up to everybody.

Three Toggles, Three Levels of Control

The new settings give you granular control over what plays visually and what doesn’t:

🎬 Music Videos — Turn this off and even live video performances will revert to audio-only streams. No more surprise video playback when you just wanted to listen.

🔁 Canvas — This disables those short, looping visual clips that appear in the background while a track plays. If you find them more distracting than atmospheric, this one’s for you.

📱 All Other Videos — This covers vertical videos, creator videos, and video podcasts. Toggle it off, and everything in this category switches to audio-only playback automatically.

Who Gets Access and When?

Spotify is rolling this out broadly — and it covers nearly every type of account:

  • Family Plan managers can control video settings for any member of their plan through subscription settings, starting today globally.
  • All Premium and Basic users — whether on Individual, Duo, Family, or Student plans — will get access to the personal settings this month.
  • Free users are included too, with the rollout happening globally throughout the month.

One Thing to Keep in Mind

The video toggles won’t affect video ads. If you’re on the free tier, ads will continue to play as normal — and some may still include Canvas-style motion visuals even with the setting turned off. A small caveat, but worth knowing upfront.

Where to Find the Setting

Once it’s available on your account, head to:

Settings → Content and Display → Videos and Canvas

It’s a straightforward update, but one that a lot of listeners have quietly wanted for a while. Sometimes the best feature is simply getting out of the way and letting you enjoy the music.
