OnePlus 16 Leak Hints at a 200MP Zoom Camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro and a Massive 9000mAh Battery

OnePlus 16 is already making waves in the smartphone world even before its official announcement. A fresh leak has revealed several major upgrades that the company is reportedly planning for its next flagship. From a powerful new chipset to a giant battery and a high-resolution zoom camera, the upcoming device looks set to push OnePlus deeper into premium territory. If the leaked details turn out to be accurate, the OnePlus 16 could become one of the most exciting Android flagships of the year.

The OnePlus 15, which launched globally in November 2025, set a strong foundation for the next generation. Now attention is shifting to its successor, which is expected to follow a similar timeline and debut later this year.

A New Leak From a Trusted Source

The latest leak comes from Digital Chat Station, a well-known tipster on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. According to the tipster, the OnePlus 16 will be positioned as an “all-around performance flagship,” meaning OnePlus is aiming for top-tier specifications across nearly every category — performance, display, camera, and battery life.

While the company has not confirmed any of these details, Digital Chat Station has a strong track record of accurate predictions in the Android space, especially regarding OnePlus and Oppo devices.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro on a 2nm Process

One of the biggest talking points of the leak is the chipset. The OnePlus 16 is rumoured to come powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, which is expected to be built on a 2nm process. This would represent a major leap in efficiency and raw performance compared to current flagship chips.

Adding to the excitement is support for LPDDR6 memory, a newer generation of RAM that promises faster speeds and improved power efficiency. Together, the upgraded chipset and memory could deliver noticeable improvements in gaming performance, AI processing, and multitasking, making the device especially attractive to power users.

A 200MP Telephoto Camera Takes Center Stage

The camera setup is shaping up to be one of the OnePlus 16’s biggest highlights. While the OnePlus 15 came with a 50MP telephoto lens, the upcoming model is rumoured to feature a much more powerful 200MP telephoto camera.

This kind of resolution would allow for sharper zoomed-in shots, better cropping flexibility, and improved low-light performance. If OnePlus pairs the hardware with strong computational photography, the OnePlus 16 could compete more aggressively with rivals like Samsung’s Galaxy Ultra series and Vivo’s X Pro lineup, both known for their advanced telephoto systems.

A BOE Display With Ultra-High Refresh Rate

Another major upgrade involves the display. The OnePlus 16 is expected to come with a flat screen developed by BOE, the same display partner used for the OnePlus 15. According to the tipster, the new screen will support an “ultra-high refresh rate,” and earlier leaks suggest a maximum refresh rate of up to 240Hz.

A 240Hz refresh rate would be a significant jump for any flagship phone, especially for gamers and users who appreciate ultra-smooth scrolling. While many manufacturers are still settling around 120Hz and 144Hz, OnePlus may be preparing to push the boundaries with a much higher rate.

Massive Battery Upgrade Up to 9000mAh

The OnePlus 15 already impressed reviewers with its 7,300mAh battery, which lasted more than 30 hours in WiFi web surfing tests. The OnePlus 16 is reportedly going even further, with a battery capacity of up to 9,000mAh.

If accurate, this would be one of the largest batteries ever included in a mainstream flagship phone. It would offer:

  • Significantly longer screen-on time
  • Better performance for heavy gaming sessions
  • Improved endurance for travelers and content creators
  • More efficient handling of AI-driven tasks, which can drain power faster

A battery this large could redefine what users expect from a flagship Android phone, especially as software demands continue to grow.

Improved Audio, Haptics, and Durability

Beyond performance and cameras, the OnePlus 16 is expected to refine the overall user experience. The leak suggests the phone will feature an X-axis motor, which is generally considered a higher-quality vibration system known for more precise haptic feedback.

It is also said to come with symmetrical dual speakers, which should deliver more balanced and immersive sound during videos, gaming, or video calls. On top of that, the device is rumoured to offer “full-level” water resistance, suggesting an upgrade in durability that may bring it closer to the premium IP ratings seen in competitors’ phones.

Plus Key Returns for Quick AI Access

The Plus Key, a dedicated physical button that gives users quick access to AI features, may also make a comeback on the OnePlus 16. As AI continues to play a bigger role in smartphones, having a dedicated shortcut button could become a useful tool for tasks like summarising notes, generating text, or quickly accessing voice assistants.

This feature aligns with the broader industry trend of integrating AI deeper into the smartphone experience, similar to upcoming devices that focus heavily on Gemini and other on-device AI tools.

Will the OnePlus 16 Launch Globally?

One question that remains unanswered is the global availability of the OnePlus 16. Recent rumours suggest that OnePlus may be scaling back its operations in certain regions, including the United States and parts of Europe. If those reports prove accurate, the OnePlus 16 could end up launching in select markets rather than receiving a wide global rollout.

For now, the company has not made any official statements about its regional plans for the new flagship.

A Promising Flagship in the Making

If the leaks turn out to be accurate, the OnePlus 16 looks set to become one of the most powerful and well-rounded Android phones of the year. With cutting-edge performance, a large battery, a high-resolution telephoto camera, and a bold display, it has the potential to attract both long-time OnePlus fans and new buyers looking for premium specifications.

As the launch approaches, more details are likely to surface. Until OnePlus makes things official, this leak gives a strong glimpse into what could become a defining flagship for the brand.
