The weekend offers a comparatively gentle start before conditions ramp up. Saturday brings highs in the mid-80s under partly cloudy skies, though humidity will begin creeping in and the air will start to feel heavier.

Sunday continues the upward trend. An early chance of storms gives way to partly cloudy, hot, and humid conditions by afternoon, with highs again reaching the mid-80s. The more telling figure, however, is Sunday night’s low. Temperatures will dip only into the middle 70s, offering little overnight relief as the region heads into Monday.

The First Alert Stretch

Monday marks the official start of the Forecast First Alert period. Highs are expected to climb into the middle 90s, with a forecast high near 96 degrees. Once humidity is factored in, it could feel closer to 95 to 105 degrees at times.

The heat does not let up afterward. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will all see afternoon highs in the low to mid-90s, with heat index values once again ranging from 95 to 105 degrees. The central concern is not a single hot afternoon but several consecutive days of high heat, heavy humidity, and notably warm nights.

The Humidity Problem

Dew points will remain elevated throughout the week, leaving the air feeling thick and oppressive. Overnight lows holding in the 70s for several nights will limit the body’s ability to cool down and recover after each day’s heat.

That absence of nighttime relief poses a particular risk for vulnerable groups, including:
