An I-77 road rage shooting in Carroll County, Virginia, left two sisters injured Friday morning and ended with a North Carolina man in custody facing multiple felony charges.

Virginia State Police say the incident unfolded on northbound I-77 near mile marker three around 8:50 a.m. on Aug. 22, when troopers received reports of gunfire on the interstate.

What Happened on the Highway

According to VSP, the suspect fired shots from a Mercedes-Benz directly into a Jeep traveling nearby. Two sisters riding in the Jeep, ages 12 and 20, were struck and injured during the incident.

Both sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening. They were transported to a hospital in North Carolina for treatment, given the highway’s proximity to the state line.

The Pursuit and Arrest

Troopers briefly pursued the suspect’s vehicle following the shooting before making an arrest near Exit 19.

The man taken into custody was identified as 61-year-old Richard T. Ariviello of Charlotte, North Carolina.
