The GTA 6 price debate has reached a fever pitch, and a fresh leak from a major European retailer has only intensified the speculation. Just days before pre-orders open, listings from the Portuguese branch of FNAC suggest Grand Theft Auto 6 could carry a base price of €90 — with premium editions climbing even higher.
A Pricing Question Years in the Making
The cost of Grand Theft Auto 6 has loomed over the gaming world for the past couple of years. The conversation began when Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter suggested that Rockstar Games could price the game at $100 and still get away with it.
That prediction drew plenty of skepticism, with several other analysts dismissing the idea as unrealistic. But with pre-orders now scheduled to open Thursday, June 25, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X, a new discovery has reignited those concerns.
The FNAC Leak
The latest twist comes from FNAC, a multinational retail chain operating across France, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, and several other markets. The Portuguese version of the retailer reportedly listed the game with a base price of €90.
The information was first spotted by ResetEra user fdst1983, who shared a screenshot showing several Rockstar Games SKUs alongside the correct GTA 6 launch date of November 19, 2026. According to the leaked image, the pricing tiers break down as follows:
- RS1 (base edition): €89.99
- RS4 (premium edition): €119.99
- Most expensive SKU: €199.99, almost certainly the Collector’s Edition
The RS2 and RS3 SKUs were cropped out of the image, but they’re expected to fall somewhere between the base and premium tiers.
Why This Leak Feels Different
Placeholder listings for GTA 6 have surfaced before at various price points, so a healthy dose of skepticism is warranted. However, a few factors make this particular leak harder to dismiss.
For one, the timing is significant — these listings appeared just days before pre-orders officially open. Combined with the fact that they originate from a major, established retailer, there’s reason to believe FNAC may actually have accurate information.
Pachter May Have Been Close After All
If the €90 figure holds true, it would mean Pachter’s controversial prediction wasn’t far off the mark. A €90 retail price would match what Nintendo charged for Mario Kart World last year — a move that shocked the industry — and it wouldn’t stray far from the $100 he forecast well over a year ago.
There’s one potential silver lining for buyers. Mario Kart World was €10 cheaper when purchased digitally, and gamers are hopeful that the same discount might apply to Grand Theft Auto 6.
The Big Question
With confirmation potentially arriving as soon as Thursday, the debate now shifts to the players themselves. If Rockstar Games officially sets the price at €90 for the base edition, would fans still be willing to buy in?
For now, nothing is official until Rockstar makes its announcement. But if these leaked listings prove accurate, the long-running GTA 6 price debate may finally have its answer — and it could reset expectations for what a blockbuster game costs going forward.
