Australia Shark Attack Claims Second Fatal Victim of 2026 Off Western Australia
A fatal Australia shark attack off the coast of Western Australia has taken the life of a 38-year-old man, the second deadly incident of its kind recorded in the country this year.
The tragedy unfolded on Saturday. According to reporting from the Australian Broadcasting Corp., the man was attacked at Horseshoe Reef, a spot located northwest of Rottnest Island near Perth. The shark involved was a great white measuring roughly 4 meters, or about 13 feet, in length.
Aerial footage of the scene showed responders managing to bring the man back to shore. Despite those efforts, he could not be revived. As of the initial reports, he had not been formally identified.
The incident is a sobering reminder of the risks that accompany Australia’s waters, where great white sharks are known to roam. Coming as the second fatal shark attack the nation has seen in 2026, it underscores why coastal communities and authorities continue to treat ocean safety so seriously.
