Former Prince Andrew Takes Police to High Court Over the Warrants Behind Searches of His Homes

The Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor warrants have become the focus of a fresh legal fight. The former Prince Andrew has gone to the High Court in London to challenge the warrants that allowed police to search two of his homes earlier this year, and a hearing is set for Thursday.

What He Is Asking the Court to Decide

A judicial spokesperson confirmed that Mountbatten-Windsor filed a claim with the High Court. According to earlier press reports, he wants the court to rule on whether Thames Valley Police acted lawfully when searching his properties near Windsor Castle and on the King’s Sandringham estate.

Thames Valley Police said its investigation is still going on. It acknowledged being part of the legal proceedings over the warrants but declined to say more while they continue.

Why the Outcome Could Matter

Lawyer Mark Stephens of the Howard Kennedy firm explained what is at stake. If the court sides with Mountbatten-Windsor, authorities could be blocked from using anything found in the searches if he were ever prosecuted.

Stephens called Thursday’s hearing a preliminary skirmish in a bigger battle. In his view, the move shows that the former prince and his lawyers take the warrants, and the possibility of charges, extremely seriously. He suggested more legal steps may follow and that charges could eventually be brought.

How We Got Here

The searches took place in February, when Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The allegation is that he passed sensitive information to Jeffrey Epstein while serving as the UK’s trade envoy.

Police questioned him for 11 hours and then released him under investigation. That means he has been neither charged nor cleared.

The case came to light after the US Justice Department published millions of pages of records from its inquiry into Epstein’s sex trafficking and his links to wealthy, powerful men worldwide.

A Historic Moment for the Monarchy

His arrest was the first of a senior British royal in almost four centuries, a sign of how much deference toward the monarchy has faded.

His ties to Epstein had embarrassed the royal family for more than a decade and pushed him to step back from royal duties in 2019. As more details emerged last year, King Charles III removed his brother’s princely title to shield the institution.

After the arrest, Charles broke from his late mother’s “never complain, never explain” habit and issued a statement, saying the law must take its course and that it would not be right to comment further.

What to Watch Next

  • The outcome of Thursday’s High Court hearing
  • Whether the court examines how the warrants were obtained
  • Any decision by police or prosecutors on charges
  • Further statements from the Palace

The Bottom Line

This is a legal skirmish, not a verdict, but it shows the former prince is preparing to contest every step. The ruling could shape what evidence is available if the case goes further, and the monarchy will be watching closely.
