A Loaded Weekend for Streamers
If you’re searching for new movies and shows to stream this weekend, you’re in luck. HBO, Paramount+, and Apple TV are all rolling out major season premieres, while Netflix and Hulu add fresh originals to the mix.
HBO is bringing back its first “Game of Thrones” spin-off for more dragon-fueled battles, and both Paramount+ and Apple TV are launching the second seasons of two beloved but wildly different hits. Netflix, meanwhile, has a tearjerking rom-com on deck, and Hulu offers a comedy with a clever twist on the phrase “arrested development.”
Here’s a closer look at the eight best titles to add to your watchlist.
“Pressure” (2026)
A few weeks after hitting U.S. theaters, “Pressure” is now available to rent and buy at home. Directed by Anthony Maras and adapted from co-writer David Haig’s 2014 stage play, the film stars Brendan Fraser as Dwight D. Eisenhower.
The story follows Eisenhower as he works alongside military officials and meteorologists to pinpoint the right window for the Normandy landings of D-Day during World War II. With an all-star cast that includes Andrew Scott, Kerry Condon, Chris Messina, and Damian Lewis, the film earned largely positive reviews on release. History buffs, in particular, will want to give this one a look on VOD.
“Never Change!” (Hulu)
One of the year’s strangest comedies has arrived on Hulu. Directed by Marty Schousboe, “Never Change!” follows members of the graduating class of 2008 who are forced — thanks to a legal technicality — to return to high school in their mid-30s.
The premise lets the characters wrestle with adult baggage while confronting lingering teenage angst. The ensemble cast features Jo Firestone, Topher Grace, Zach Cherry, Ana Gasteyer, John Reynolds, and Sofia Black-D’Elia. It may not be for everyone, but the curious can catch it now, as it premiered Wednesday.
“The Simpsons: Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition” (Disney+)
Disney+ kicked off its summer of “Simpsons” specials this week with “Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition,” the first of three planned installments.
The two-part special follows Marge as she imagines alternate-reality versions of Homer after he behaves irresponsibly with their kids during a date. Guest stars include Betty Gilpin, Jon Hamm, Laufey, and Tegan and Sara. For die-hard “Simpsons” fans, it’s an easy addition to the week’s watchlist.
“I Will Find You” (Netflix)
Among Netflix’s noteworthy scripted originals this week is “I Will Find You,” based on Harlan Coben’s 2023 novel of the same name.
The limited drama follows a father, played by Sam Worthington, who is wrongly imprisoned for his son’s murder — only to uncover evidence suggesting his son may still be alive. Worthington leads an impressive cast that includes “Severance” star Britt Lower, Milo Ventimiglia, Erin Richards, Jonathan Tucker, Madeleine Stowe, and Clancy Brown. All eight episodes premiered Thursday.
“Voicemails for Isabelle” (Netflix)
Netflix’s biggest scripted premiere of the week is “Voicemails for Isabelle,” written and directed by “Scrambled” filmmaker Leah McKendrick.
This romantic dramedy centers on a young man, played by Nick Robinson, who begins receiving voicemails meant for a late sister — left by an anonymous woman, played by Zoey Deutch. Romance blossoms once their paths cross, even as the secret behind their connection hangs over the relationship.
The film boasts a stacked cast, including Nick Offerman, Lukas Gage, Harry Shum Jr., Ciara Bravo, and McKendrick herself. If you’re in the mood for something that can make you laugh, swoon, and cry, this is a strong pick.
“Sugar” Season 2 (Apple TV)
More than two years after its surprise debut, “Sugar” returns for a second season. Colin Farrell reprises his lead role in the genre-bending series created by Mark Protosevich.
Season 2 promises to deal with the fallout from the traumatic events and reality-shifting twists of its first season. Fans of the original will likely want to dive into the new episodes, with the first installment premiering Friday on Apple TV.
“House of the Dragon” Season 3 (HBO Max)
Perhaps the weekend’s most anticipated return, HBO’s “House of the Dragon” launches its third season Sunday night.
Picking up where Season 2 left off, the new chapter promises to raise the stakes with even more action, gore, and bloody consequences as Rhaenyra Targaryen, played by Emma D’Arcy, continues her costly quest for the Iron Throne. The premiere airs Sunday night on HBO and HBO Max.
“The Agency” Season 2 (Paramount+)
Nearly two years after its late-2024 debut, the spy thriller “The Agency” is back for a second season. Created by Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, the series drops all ten episodes at once on Sunday — making it ideal for a weekend binge.
Michael Fassbender returns to lead a cast that also includes Jeffrey Wright, Jodie Turner-Smith, Katherine Waterston, Harriet Sansom Harris, John Magaro, and Richard Gere.
Plenty to Choose From
Whether you’re craving epic fantasy, heartfelt romance, sharp comedy, or gripping drama, this weekend’s lineup has something for nearly every taste. From the return of fan favorites to fresh originals, there’s no shortage of new movies and shows to stream — so settle in and start watching.
