A Father’s Honest Admission

Speaking with correspondent Ross Douthat, 36-year-old Patrick Clancy shared a startling truth about where his mental state stood not long ago. He admitted there was a period when he genuinely didn’t expect to see his 35th birthday, and stranger still, he said he felt completely at peace with that possibility. The interview arrived at a particularly charged moment, coming shortly after his ex-wife Lindsay Clancy’s trial ended in a mistrial earlier this month. Courts have yet to determine whether she’ll face a retrial for the deaths of their three children, 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan. The Months Leading Up To Tragedy

Patrick described how things began unraveling roughly five months after Callan’s birth, back in October 2022, when Lindsay told him she’d gone several nights without sleep. Patrick recounted coming home from running an errand to discover Lindsay lying in the backyard, having cut her throat and wrists after jumping from an upstairs window, leaving her paralyzed. Inside the house, he found his children in the basement. Cora and Dawson had already died. Callan was airlifted to Boston Children’s Hospital, clinging to life.

Patrick described holding onto hope during those desperate hours, recalling how he silently pleaded for just one child to survive, promising himself he would give that child the best possible life and always keep the memory of his siblings alive. Callan’s heart continued beating for four more days. During that time, Patrick was able to hold his son, lying beside him in his final moments before Callan passed away in his arms.

Choosing To Forgive

In the aftermath of losing his three children, Patrick made the decision to write personal tributes to each of them and publicly forgive Lindsay, despite intense backlash from those who viewed his response as inappropriate. Patrick testified during the trial and found himself thrust into an intense wave of online scrutiny, with amateur investigators and social media influencers picking apart every detail of his testimony and behavior, some going so far as to construct baseless theories painting him as cold, unfaithful, or even suggesting he bore responsibility for his children’s deaths.
