Newly Released Video Reveals the Chaotic Aftermath of a Deadly Texas Track Meet Stabbing

Newly released footage from a Texas track meet stabbing has offered a chilling look at the moments following the fatal attack that took the life of a teenage athlete last year. The video, captured by both an officer’s body camera and a stadium surveillance camera, was made public after the conclusion of the high-profile murder trial.

The Verdict and the Evidence

On June 10, 19-year-old Karmelo Anthony was convicted of murder in the death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf and sentenced to 35 years in prison. The fatal stabbing occurred in the stadium bleachers during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas.

A jury ultimately rejected Anthony’s claim that he had acted in self-defense. Following the trial’s conclusion, the Collin County court released a batch of evidence, including the surveillance and body camera footage that has now drawn widespread attention.

What the Surveillance Video Shows

The silent surveillance footage paints a tense and unsettling picture of the scene. Filmed on a rainy day, the video captures the track and bleachers before the situation rapidly unfolds.

In the footage, a figure in a gray sweatshirt suddenly emerges from behind a yellow tent and bolts down the bleacher steps. Key moments captured on camera include:

  • The individual reaching the bottom of the bleachers, tripping, and falling to the ground
  • Quickly getting back up and running along the fencing that separates the bleachers from the track
  • Pausing briefly to glance back at what appears to be someone pursuing him
  • Continuing to run partway around the track

As he made his way around, an unidentified person joined him. The two stopped, spoke briefly, and embraced before continuing on. A third person soon joined them, and after a short exchange, Anthony walked toward the fence — where he appeared to encounter a police officer.

The Body Camera Footage

The officer’s body camera picks up the next critical moments. As Anthony approached, the officer placed him in handcuffs and began walking him toward a police cruiser.

According to the footage, Anthony complied with the officer’s commands. Moments later, he broke down in tears. In a shaky, emotional voice, he said someone had put their hands on him despite his warnings not to, repeating the claim as the officer escorted him.

The officers then walked him to the police cruiser and placed him inside.

A Tragedy That Shook a Community

The release of this footage brings renewed attention to a case that stunned the Frisco community and beyond. What began as a routine high school sporting event ended in the death of a young athlete, leaving two families forever changed.

While the videos don’t capture the stabbing itself, they offer a raw glimpse into the immediate aftermath — the panic, the confusion, and the emotional weight of a tragedy that unfolded in front of spectators. With Anthony’s conviction now finalized, the footage stands as part of the public record of a case that has sparked difficult conversations about violence among young people.
